Way to go George and the American Legion activists. I'm certain no pot now exists in Orcutt!! 6:41 pm
Well said and purely truth. 7:27 pm
Cbrown; no matter how true your stance on the U.N. may be, you can get your important message across more effectively without personal attacks.
You are very attuned to this issue and you want others to be aware of it, so gear-down on the anger and approach with kindness. It works. People will be more open and actually start to change their opinions and become more aware. Not that there isn't a time and a place for anger and being brunt, I believe there is. Just use the right approach at the right time.
Smgal; Cbrown knows what (shes?) talking about. It's the basic slippery-slope dilemma. Never cede your sovereignty in absolute terms. Don't trust what you haven't come to fully understand. There does need to be protections for children, but the U.N. isn't necessarily the answer to every atrocity happening in the the farthest corners of the planet. They are a large, powerful complex organization and you know where that can lead. 8:38 am
Thanks for that memory Jerry. I just relived a moment from childhood. Good memories at Waller Park. 9:07 pm
You mean the new owners assumed that the Firestone's activities would be "grandfathered" when they purchased the property? No due diligence? Why wouldn't the property be found suitable now, if it was suitable then? 2:09 pm
The depth of life is discovered everyday Jerry. Take off those rose-colored glasses. I am the Walrus, cuucoocuchoo. 2:15 pm
AG Soros. Please use another idiom besides, GET A LIFE. So 1st grade. 2:23 pm

i also said this riffle, not a general riffle. a G36 is an assault riffle. 22's are used for sport target shooting and varments. shottys can be used for hunting (and murder, but hunting), and assault riffles are used for killing. whether or not the kill was warranted, the weapon was used for killing a human being. 8 year olds dont need to know that the police need an assault riffle to combat the gangs. 8 year olds need to eat their veggies so they get a treat after dinner. if any of you think i'm wrong, talk to an 8 year old.
I agree. Hunting animals is a "horse of a different color". When they get to be about twelve, you do have to start letting reality (about world affairs) become an unromaticized guideline; but only in age-appropriate, measured doses. Common sense people. 2:28 pm
CBrown:
It's nice to see that not everyone, even someone with liberal leanings like Smgal4ever has, does not always have the classic knee-jerk response that guns are bad and anytime guns and kids are combined that is supposed to be obviously worse.
Maybe the hard-core radical anti-gun left is starting to realize that even 70% of Democrats believe and support the proven idea that gun ownership is an individual right- one that is not going away.
It's nice to see that not all left-bashers are devoid of rationale. Why would you assume that a left-leaner would automatically want to control gun ownership? Why would you assume a left-leaner would not be inclined to ever lean right on certain issues? This is progress. Your revelation is progress. Thanks for keeping your knee-in this time.
BTW, I am for gun-owners rights, but I think the lady who was concerned about the 8 year old thought it would be appropriate to ask the parents first, to see if they decided it was appropriate to expose their 8 y/o to what amounts to the normalization of people being shot. The lady who objected may not have been calling to infringe on other parents who want their 8y/o to have firearm lessons- which is part of our heritage, (as smgal stated). I hope the letter-writer wasn't trying to infringe on your rights, but I can also understand her perspective. 3:29 pm

The question still remains whether we need to get involved or worry about every problem in the world. Most of the Arab countries in the Middle East have problems even getting along with each other, much less with the "infidels" in the rest of the world. It is questionable whether parts of Africa will ever approach modern life. And it seems to me that in many ways the Moslem religion is essentially still living in the medieval period. Does all this have to be our problem?
Historically, the U. S. has prided itself on being defended by an ocean on either side. That may not count for as much now, but do we need to settle everybody else's problems? Maybe we should let them vote on whether they want us to interfere, which seems to be about the reigning attitude.
Well said, thanks for saving me the trouble. This is all apparent to some. The phraseology "Fighting for our Freedom" gets a lot of mileage. These are tribes, they are not a threat to our modern world. Let them be.
