13th Annual Blaine Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament
The 13th Annual Blaine Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament is sold out. However, tickets are still available for the awards banquet and auction.
The tournament will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Rancho Maria Golf Club. The dinner follows with a social hour beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge. Dinner will be served at 5:30. The live auction begins after dinner with a silent auction running throughout the evening.
You can attend the banquet at the Elks even if you don't play in the tournament. Dinner tickets will not be sold at the door. Advance reservations can be made by calling the tournament committee at 922-1202 before Monday, Nov. 2. Dinner tickets are $25.
SMYBL registration
Registration is under way for the upcoming Santa Maria Youth Basketball League (SMYBL) season.
All sign-ups are taking place at the Edwards Community Center gymnasium, 809 Panther Drive - next to Pioneer Valley High School.
The next registration date is Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5-8 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The deadline for first through sixth grade players is Oct. 29. The deadline for seventh and eight grade and high school players is Oct. 31. After these dates, late registration fees apply.
The cost for all but the high school division is $75 for the first child from a family, $55 for a second player and $50 for a third player from one family. The fees include a team photo package and raffle tickets. The high school division fee is $65 and does not include a photo package. The late registration is $95.

NBA/WNBA FIT Dribble, Swish & Dish Competition
The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, Santa Maria Valley YMCA and Rise and Achieve Foundation invite young basketball fans to showcase their dribbling, shooting, and passing skills at the NBA FIT Dribble, Swish & Dish Competition.
This free event will be held Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Edwards Community Center, 809 Panther Drive from 1-3 pm.
The competition is open to children ages 7-12. Registration takes place on site the day of the event.
Local champions will receive awards and advance to the regional event. The top 12 national players win a trip to the NBA's All-Star weekend in Dallas next year.
