Garcia finishes 7th, Peinado 16th at state meet
FRESNO — Nipomo senior Andrew Garcia and St. Joseph junior Quetta Peinado finished seventh and 16th, respectively, in their races at the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park Saturday.
Garcia raced in the Division IV boys race. Peinado ran in the Division IV girls race. Their times were 15:57 and 18:57, respectively, on the 5K course which consists mainly of rolling grassy hills.
Peinado met her goals of breaking 19 minutes and finishing in the top 20. She ran the fastest time any St. Joseph girl has at the state meet.
Morro Bay senior James Shipe placed fourth in 15:53 in the Division IV boys race. Junior Daniel Milechman of Tamalpais, which is in the North Coast Section, won in 15:37.
Morro Bay’s boys finished sixth in the team standings. Laguna Beach won.
North Hollywood Harvard Westlake sophomore Camille Chapus took the Division IV girls race in 17:59. Her squad also won the girls team title. Templeton’s girls finished eighth.
Peinado will race in the girls seeded race — the highest level girls race – at the Foot Locker West Regional at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut next Saturday.
Cabrillo girls soccer team to raise funds for cancer
For the second straight year the Cabrillo High girls soccer team will host a special game to benefit breast cancer awareness.
On Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Huyck Stadium, the Conquistadores will host Nipomo at Huyck Stadium. The junior varsity will play at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6 p.m.
Admission to the game will be $5 and all proceeds will go to breast cancer research.
Last season senior Sammy Marquez organized the event as her senior project. The team decided to commit to the cause on a yearly basis.

Kris Kringle Klassic coming to Rancho Maria
The annual Kris Kringle Junior Golf Klassic will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at the Rancho Maria Golf Club.
Junior golfers will compete for championships in six different age group divisions — four for boys and two for girls.
The $20 entry fee includes green fees, range balls, lunch, trophies and prizes.
