"They played well, and we didn/t play as well as we have been."
That was Righetti girls golf coach Tracy Davis/ summation of the four-team PAC-5 League Tournament at Rancho Maria Golf Club Thursday, which Paso Robles won.
The Bearcats won the four-team tourney with a 229. Righetti was a distant second at 241. Arroyo Grande finished third at 254, and Atascadero was fourth at 274.
The Bearcats moved into a tie with Righetti for the PAC-5 lead. Both teams have 12 points. Arroyo Grande stands third with four. Atascadero has two. Davis said the top two team finishers plus three top individuals at the end of the year advance to the CIF Southern Section Playoffs.
Cathy Aten of Paso Robles and Sarah Brand of Righetti were co-medalists. Both shot a 41.
However, the Bearcats/ Nos. 2 and 3 golfers helped put them over the top. Alyssa Record shot a 43 and Nicole Garcia carded a 44. Righetti/s second and third golfers, Krista Sua and Stacey Sniderhan, shot 47 and 49 respectively.
"Their second and third golfers played very well," Davis said. "Sarah shot a solid round for her."
Laura Arnold led Arroyo Grande with a 45. Katie Stubblefield was Atascadero/s top golfer with a 49.
Paso Robles earned five points for winning Thursday. Righetti garnered three, Arroyo Grande got two and Atascadero scored one. Teams gain league points on the basis of dual match and tournament results.
The Warriors are 2-0 in league duals and 5-0 overall in dual matches. Righetti beat Paso Robles in a league tournament earlier, but the teams have not played head-to-head yet.
They will Monday. The dual match starts at 2:30 p.m. at Hunter Ranch in Paso Robles.
Davis said Sua "usually shoots in the mid-to-high 40/s. She shot a solid round for her."
Sniderhan has been Righetti/s No. 1 golfer much of the year. "She usually shoots in the low 40/s," said Davis.
Jenna Maiden was Righetti/s fourth golfer in, at 49. Michelle Nelson and Vanessa Pacheco both shot 55.
"We usually have one golfer shoot in the 50/s," Davis said. "Not two. But that/s fine. We/ll be okay."
Sarah Wisler made it four Paso Robles golfers under 50 by shooting a 49. Marilu Fernandez rounded out the Bearcats/ scoring with a 52.
Brand/s low score at Rancho Maria this year is a 38. She has typically been in the low 40/s lately.
"It was good," she said of her round Thursday. "I sank a lot of putts that were key.
"The course has a lot of greens that can get pretty narrow, and when the greens are fast it gets pretty tough," Brand said.
Fast greens, Brand said, are atypical for Rancho Maria. "The greens at the other courses (around the league) are a lot faster. It/s generally pretty tame here."
