Righetti pulls rank on Clovis West

Righetti got the best of the 19th-ranked high school softball team in the nation Saturday.

The Warriors (10-2) rallied to defeat Clovis West 2-1 in the first game, and then Carissa Segura pitched a complee game four-hit shutout as Righetti swept the doubleheader with a 2-0 victory.

U.S.A. Today ranked Clovis West 19th going into the games Saturday.

In the seventh inning of the first game, Christina Perez tried to bunt winning pitcher Jenna Maiden over to third. The throw to third was wild, and Maiden scored.

Perez went to second base on the play, and then pinch hitter Kelsey Anderson singled her to third. Pinch hitter Lisa Fillmore drove in Perez with a single.

Tabatha Taylor went 2-for-3 with an RBI as Righetti took the second game. Segura struck out five, walked just two and got 13 ground ball outs.

Maiden and Antoinette Hernandez both went 2-for-3 in the first game for the Warriors, who play a PAC-5 League game at 3:30 p.m Wednesday at Paso Robles..

Baseball

Cabrillo 11, Montclair Prep 7

VANDENBERG VILLAGE 7 Chris White tripled and hit a solo home run as the Conquistadores (5-6) took a non-league game.

Bubba Jones had two hits and drove in two runs. Chris Ramsey was 2-for-3 with a triple, and John Jennings went 2-for-2.

James Dimeo doubled and hit a three-run homer in the fifth for Montclair Prep (6-3).

Santa Barbara Easter Relays

SANTA BARBARA 7 Megan Howard of Arroyo Grande owns the eighth best all-time United States high school girls shot put mark, and she won at the Easter Relays at Santa Barbara City College.

Howard threw 48-11 1/2. In a dual meet against San Luis Obispo Thursday, she won with a put of 50-3 1/2. That is the eighth best all time U.S. girls prep mark. Howard also took the girls discus with a 136-4.

Teammates finished second. Lauren Arnold put the shot 41-1 1/2. Jillian Sola hurled the discus 134-9.

Arroyo Grande/s Stephen Field and Mark Lewis finished 1-2 in the shot put. Lewis and Field finished 1-2 in the discus.

Field/s winning shot put was 57-11. Lewis was second at 57-10 1/4. Lewis threw the discus 169-3. Field/s best was 166-5.

Arroyo Grande/s Michael Accetta was second in the boys pole vault at 14-0. The Eagles/ Lauren Alarcio finished fourth in 15.32 in the girls 100 high hurdles.

Righetti/s boys 400 relay team finished third in 44.92. The quartet was comprised of Tyler Hogan, Mark Malangko, Aaron Herbert and Chris Brooms. The same foursome finished fourth in 1:33.85 in the 800 relay. The order went Malangko, Hogan, Herbert and Brooms.

Warrior freshman Kenna Wolter won the girls frosh soph triple jump at 32-1 1/4.
