RHS wraps up playoff spot

Righetti/s softball team is the first Santa Maria Valley prep squad to clinch a berth in the 2004 spring playoffs.

The Warriors are in second place at 6-2 in the PAC-5 League with four league games left. Fourth place Atascadero is 2-6 after losing 1-0 to Arroyo Grande Wednesday.

The top three teams are guaranteed playoff berths, and the Greyhounds cannot catch the Warriors since Righetti beat Atascadero the first two games of the teams/ three-game season series.

San Luis Obispo leads the PAC-5 pack at 8-0.

No game for SJ

The Knights/ players and coaches spent part of their Wednesday afternoon at the Hagerman Softball Complex waiting for a game that was not to be.

Mission Prep of San Luis Obispo, St. Joseph/s scheduled non-league opponent, never made the trip south.

"One of the umpires called their athletic director," said St. Joseph assistant coach Ang Guerrero, who is coach Greg Guerrero/s daughter. "It was on everybody/s schedule, but their athletic director said it wasn/t on their schedule."

St. Joseph hosts Los Padres League front-runner Cabrillo at 4 p.m. Friday at Hagerman in a league game.
