SMVYSA getting ready for 2004

The Santa Maria Valley Youth Soccer Association (SMVYSA) is gearing up for registration for the 2004 season.

Sign-ups will be held every Saturday from April 24 through June 26 at the snack bar at Adams Field, across the street from the Minami Center. Registration will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Returning players should receive registration forms by mail. If you do not receive the form in the mail then you will have to attend one of the Saturday registration dates.

The season will run from September through November.

SMVYSA also held their election for the 2004 Board of Directors.

Tahir Masood was elected President, Joe Cota was elected Vice President/Web Master, Eileen Rodriguez was elected Secretary, Kim Bink was elected Treasurer, Saul Rodriguez was elected Equipment Officer, Ray Sanchez was elected Community Liaison, Jose Valdivia was elected Marketing Officer. Yolanda Charette was elected Head Referee, Robbin Medina was elected Player Agent and Jeff McCann was elected League Statistician. All board members are volunteers

Orcutt Speed Tryouts

If you love soccer and are ready to move up to the next level of play then the Orcutt Speed may be your next team.

The Orcutt Speed Soccer Club is looking for dedicated, experienced and talented players to join the club.

The tryouts will be held at St. Joseph High School at Bradley and Foster Roads on Saturday, April 3 from 10 am until noon.

Teams will play in the following divisions; Boys under 11, Girls under 11, Girls under 12, Girls under 13 and Girls under 14.

New Under-11 girls team being formed

Are you interested in playing soccer at a competitive level?

A new girls under- 11 club team is being formed. Players must be 11 years old before August 1, 2004.

Try-outs will be held Saturday, March 27 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Hancock Soccer Field.

Please wear shin guards, cleats and bring a soccer ball and water.

Lawn Bowling

Open house at the Santa Maria Green

The Santa Maria Lawn Bowling Club is having an Open House/Demonstration on Saturday, April 3. Anyone interested in learning the game of Lawn Bowling is welcome to attend.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with an explanation of the game of lawn bowling followed by a demonstration of how the game is played.

Lawn Bowling is a low impact exercise, appropriate for all ages, and is fun to play. Please wear flat-soled shoes and come early for coffee and donuts.

The club/s next scheduled tournament will be held on Saturday, April 17. It will be a mixed pairs tournament.

The Santa Maria Lawn Bowling Club is sponsored by the City Recreation and Parks Department and is located at 420 South McClelland Street, across from the library and adjacent to the police station.

Golf

Free junior clinic at Sunset Ridge

PGA golf professional Raul Quezada is conducting a free junior golf clinic at the Sunset Ridge Golf Center on Saturday, March 27 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

All boys and girls, ages 17 and under, are welcome to attend.

Juniors 11-years old and younger will receive instruction from 11 a.m. until noon. Juniors 12-and up will have their session from 12:30 until 2 p.m.

The clinic is open to both beginning and experienced players.

Beginning players will learn the basic skills needed to play the game of golf. More advanced players will learn to improve their technique in all areas of the game.

Annual Spring Twilite League forming

The Sunset Ridge Golf Center is starting up its annual Wednesday Night Spring Twilite League.

Teams will play Wednesday nights beginning April 7 and running through May 26.

You can get your team set up by visiting the Pro Shop at 1424 Fairway Drive or by calling 347-1070.

Rebels are recruiting

The Rebels 18-A girls softball team will be holding tryouts soon.
