Baseball
Last chance to sign up for Orcutt Babe Ruth season
Saturday is the last day players will be eligible to register to play in the year/s Orcutt Babe Ruth season.
Interested players must be between the ages of 13-15 years old.
The registration will take place at the Orcutt Babe Ruth fields from 9-10 a.m.
A birth certificate and proof of residency (utility bill) is required.
The cost is ,90. If you have any questions, please call the Babe Ruth hotline at 937-4993.
Softball
Santa Maria board staging benefit tournament
The Santa Maria Adult Softball board and players are putting on a benefit for Jackie Perris-Porcho.
The softball group is raising funds to help Perris-Porcho with her battle with cancer.
The Benefit will be held at Hagerman Sports Complex, 3300 Skyway Drive, on Sunday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will a chicken barbecue lunch, raffle prizes, and an afternoon of "Grudge Match" softball games with local businesses and community member playing their rivals, all in fun.
For the sponsorship of the Grudge Match games, the board is asking for ,500 per team. The "Grudge Match" games will start at 1:00 p.m.
The softball board, along with all of the league/s players, is also asking for donations from the business community to help make this a success.
The barbecue features a 1/2 chicken, salad, beans and bread, all cooked by the Adult Softball players and board members.
Tickets are being sold in advance for ,7. All proceeds from the event will be presented to Jackie Perris-Porcho and her family to help with her Medical expenses.
Basketball
SWOOSH Spring Classic
Youth Basketball of America is presenting the SWOOSH Spring Basketball Classic on March 20-21.
The tournament will be held at Cuesta College on Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo and other local gymnasiums.
The Classic is a grade-based tournament for boys and girls with teams in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade divisions as well as junior varsity and varsity.
Each team is guaranteed three games. Registration continues until March 8.

Golf
Marian/s annual Simas/ Fly Memorial set for March 29
Marian Medical Center/s annual Leland /Butch/ Simas/Felix Fly, M.D. memorial golf tournament will be played on Monday, March 29 at the Santa Maria Country Club.
The tournament honors the memory of two longtime hospital supporters while raising funds that are used to benefit the medical needs of the people of the Santa Maria Valley.

5th Annual Olde Towne Nipomo Golf Classic
The Olde Towne Nipomo Association is holding its 5th annual golf tournament at the Blacklake Golf Course on Saturday, March 27.
A barbecue dinner will be held at the Blacklake Clubhouse following the tournament.

Volleyball
Instructional league sign-ups
United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL) is accepting registration for an eight-week instructional volleyball league open to players ages 8 to 14. Boys and girls of all ability levels are welcome.
League play begins April 21. Practices will be held at Waller Park Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The fee is ,125 and includes a uniform, an official USYVL individual medal and an official volleyball.
No fundraising is required.
