LA Harbor hands Hancock another loss

Los Angeles Harbor scored just enough in the late innings to extend Hancock College/s losing streak to two.

Trailing by a run, the Seahawks tied the game in the seventh inning. They won with a run in the eighth to take this Hancock Spring Classic game 3-2 at Hancock Thursday.

The Bulldogs are 13-10 overall.

Hancock scored twice in the second inning. Other than that, the Bulldogs/ offense was mostly quiet. Hancock had five hits on the day.

The Bulldogs resume their Western State Conference North Division schedule with a 2:30 p.m. game next Thursday at home against Moorpark. Hancock has a share of the WSC North lead at 9-5.

Cuesta 5, Cerritos 2

SAN LUIS OBISPO 7 The Cougars are only 10-13, but they dispatched a second ranked Southern California team in two days at the Spring Classic.

This time their victims were the 12th-ranked Falcons. Cuesta won the game by scoring three runs in the eighth.

Softball

SB 6, Hancock 2

SANTA BARBARA 7 The Bulldogs scored twice in the first, but the Vaqueros responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Hancock (5-10, 6-18) could not rally again and dropped this WSC North game.

Dalia Daniels went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs. Stephanie Silva doubled. Lauren Gutierrez backed winning pitcher Maria Coder (6-3) by going 2-for-4 with a triple.

Cuesta 7, L.A. Pierce 0

SAN LUIS OBISPO 7 The Cougars (9-0, 13-1) collected a WSC North forfeit win against the Brahmas. The reason for Pierce/s forfeit was not known at press time.

Women/s tennis

Cuesta 7, Santa Monica 2

SAN LUIS OBISPO 7 The Cougars (11-1, 11-2) swept their singles matches and wound up Western State Conference co-champions with Hancock.

The Bulldogs shared the WSC title for the second consecutive year. Hancock and Ventura tied for the title last season. Hancock and Cuesta are both guaranteed spots in the Southern California Regional Tournament.

The teams compete this weekend in the Western State Conference Tournament in Ventura.
