Top-ranked La Quinta (29-2) put the Conquistadores out of the CIF Division IV Playoffs in the semifinals, 6-2. No. 5 Cabrillo wound up 22-7.
The Conquistadores won the Los Padres League championship. Coach Jon Osborne said his club will likely wind up fourth in the final Division IV poll.
La Quinta snapped a scoreless tie with three second-inning runs. Thomas Woodard hit a solo home run off Aztecs starter Brian Wason (13-0) in the third. But the Aztecs/ Cole Garner answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
Garner is the career Southern Section leader in home runs with 42. He has hit 11 this year.
The home team tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth. Brad Wright singled in a run in the sixth for Cabrillo/s only hit against reliever Ian Kennedy, who came on that inning.
Buddy Hain was 2-for-2 with a double for the Conquistadores. Tommy Hawk pitched the last four innings for them, giving up an unearned run and two hits. He struck out three.

La Quinta won its 14th straight and will play in the divisional championship game for the second straight year. The Aztecs take on second-ranked Pacifica of Garden Grove which beat No. 4 North Torrance 5-1 in the other semi. The Division IV championship game is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Edison Field.
Cabrillo/s Hawk drafted
The Milwaukee Brewers picked Cabrillo senior pitcher Tommy Hawk in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday.
The right-hander said he will decide in the next two days-to-a-week rather he will report for a minor league assignment with the Brewers or attend Cal State Fullerton first. He also said it will be determined in the next few days whether or not he will be offered a signing bonus.
Hawk holds the school career record for strikeouts, 115. He also holds the career (15) and single season (seven this year) school marks for home runs.
Hawk struck out 17 Morro Bay batters in a game earlier this season.
The San Diego Padres tabbed Justin Smyres of Cuesta, a Paso Robles High graduate, with the 311th pick in the draft.
The Colorado Rockies drafted Scott Anderson of Cal Poly, an Arroyo Grande graduate, in the 20th round.
