Segura flirts with no-no in PAC-5 win

PASO ROBLES 7 For six innings Wednesday, Righetti pitcher Carissa Segura had a no-hitter going.

She lost her no-hitter and her shutout in the seventh, but the Warriors still took a 3-1 PAC-5 League softball win over Paso Robles.

Righetti completed the first round of PAC-5 games at 3-1. The Warriors, who swept a Saturday doubleheader at home from Clovis West, ranked 19th nationally among high school squads by USA Today, improved to 11-2 overall.

Paso Robles is 1-2 in the PAC-5.

"Carissa gave up a leadoff walk in the seventh 7 those will come back to haunt you every time," said Righetti coach Richard Cornejo. Two consecutive hits followed, and then Segura finished off the Bearcats.

Cornejo said his team played well except for the three throwing errors it made.

Tabatha Taylor went 3-for-4 for Righetti and scored a run. Kari Overholtzer hit a two-run double for the Warriors in the second inning.

Righetti has a bye Friday. The Warriors play at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Arroyo Grande to start the second round.

VANDENBERG VILLAGE 7 Bryan Woodruff shot a 75 to lead St. Joseph past the Conquistadores in a Los Padres League match at Vandenberg Village.

Following Woodruff for the Knights were Ryan McConnell at 76; JOhn Kuczkowski at 80; Mark Castellejo at 81; and Andy Lee at 83.

The Knights are at an LPL Tournament at Alisal Ranch in Santa Ynez today.

College golf

Moorpark 4, Hancock 1

MOORPARK 7 Justin Warthen collected the Bulldogs/ lone win as the Raiders defeated them in a Western State Conference match play matchup at Tierra Rajada.

Warthen won 4 and 3. Jacob O/Keefe lost 2 and 1, Alex Schumacher fell 3 and 2, Brandon Monclus lost 4 and 3, and Will Rogers went down 2 and 1.

The Bulldogs compete in a WSC tournament at 10 a.m. Monday at Tierra Rajada.
