Oxnard has measure of Hancock in 2-1 win

OXNARD 7 Hancock College/s team collected one runs, five hits and no win Thursday.

A ninth-inning double sank the Bulldogs in this Western State Conference North Division game. Hancock is 5-2, 8-5.

The Bulldogs wasted a stellar relief pitching effort by Jacob Kougl. Kougl entered for starter Drew Bernier in the fourth inning and shut out the Condors until Todd Nelson came in during the eighth.

The Condors won on a double off Nelson in the ninth.

Hancock is at home at 1 p.m. Saturday against Oxnard.

SBCC pounds out win at Cuesta, 10-4

SAN LUIS OBISPO 7 The Vaqueros (5-2, 11-3) outhit the Cougars (3-4, 5-8) 16-15 but outscored them by plenty.

Santa Barbara/s Jon Combs hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and a solo homer in the eighth. Brad Croxton went 2-for-4 with a triple for Cuesta. St. Joseph graduate Dustin Kelly was 2-for-5.

Lompoc graduate Brian Aguailar hit a solo home run in the seventh for Cuesta

Moorpark hands AHC 9-2 road defeat

MOORPARK 7 A six-run Raiders second inning did in the Bulldogs (2-6, 4-14).

Brenna Mackeprange doubled for the Bulldogs/ only extra base hit. Hancock plays a 1 p.m. WSC North doubleheader at Ventura Tuesday.

Hancock shuts out Glendale in WSC tilt

The Bulldogs (7-0, 8-1) suffered no letdown after their big win against Cuesta Tuesday, blanking the Vaqueros in a WSC match at Hancock.

The match began the second and last WSC round for the Bulldogs.

Hancock coach Ginny Barnett said Clairol Lozano/s match was a particularly big one for the Bulldogs. Lozano, who lost to Tomoko Tsuchiya the first time the teams played, defeated Tsuchiya 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-1 this time.

Monica Krier took a three-set match for Hancock at No. 2 singles. Hancock singles players Lori Valadez, Carlene Holst, Carly Barnett and Amanda Urias all won in straight sets, with Urias winning 6-0, 6-0.

The Hancock doubles teams of Valadez-Holst, Krier-Lozano and Barnett-Julie San Jose all won eight-game pro sets rather handily. Valadez and Holst led 6-4 when their opponents had to retire because of an injury.

Men/s tennis

Bulldogs fall on road to Vaqueros, 9-0

GLENDALE 7 Davis Best won the most games for the Bulldogs (0-7, 0-8). He lost 7-5, 6-4 to Gevork Kirakosyan in the No. 1 singles match.
