The top network news story on Monday was the recommended delay and reduction in frequency of mammograms for cancer screening.

UCLA surgeon Dr. Susan Love stated that “the new guidelines bring the United States up to world standards where they have have government-run screening programs.”

The new guidelines were issued by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, whose stance influences coverage of screening tests by Medicare and many insurance companies.

The new guidelines conflict with the long-standing recommendations of the American Cancer Society.

This is only one example of what can happen when the government is allowed to make health-care decisions.
