Rescue crews have reached the body of a man who allegedly jumped from Cold Spring Canyon Bridge this afternoon.
The man, whose name and age aren't available, apparently jumped from the bridge about 1:15 p.m. and landed approximately 300 feet below.
Crews are hiking down to assess how they will bring the body back up to the road, authorities said.
Multiple people called California Highway Patrol dispatchers to report a man walking on the bridge. The man told at least one person that he was fine, according to emergency dispatch reports.
This is the seventh person to have committed suicide off the bridge this year, which is believed to be the most for any single year since the structure opened.
Caltrans has proposed installing a suicide-prevention barrier along the sides of the 1,200-foot-long bridge. The project is expected to cost between $2.5 million and $3 million - money that would come from the local portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
