A brush fire that broke out Sunday afternoon on Pacific Gas & Electric Co. property near Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant had been contained to about 75 percent Tuesday morning, but was expected to keep burning.

However, California Department of Forestry/County Fire crews were confident that the 300-acre blaze north of Avila Beach, dubbed the Diablo Fire, would be fully contained by Thursday morning.

BWe had a really good night last night,C CDF spokesman Clint Bullard said Tuesday morning. BIf the weather stays in our favor, we?re confident that we?ll have full control by Thursday.C

Air crews that battled the blaze Monday were pulled off the fire Tuesday, when firefighters were expected to employ bulldozers and hand crews to fight the fire, Bullard said.

The fire has been burning in steep, hilly terrain on coastal PG&E property just south of Montaœa de Oro State Park and north of the power plant.

The fire never threatened high-voltage power lines on the acreage, where the fire is burning, or the nuclear power plant, according to PG&E spokesman Jeff Lewis.
