Staff Report
"Concerts at the Grill" continues with its successful series of summer concerts on Friday, July 21, with The Porchdogs, a five-piece smoking bluegrass band featurnig talented musicians playing banjo, fiddle, bass and mandolin.
The "Concerts at the Grill" series began in May featuring Rob Rio and the Revolvers. The response was so encouraging that more seats and a larger dance floor were added for the future concerts.
Set on the patio of the River Grill Restaurant, the concerts offer one of the finest views available in the Santa Ynez Valley, overlooking the Santa Ynez River and rolling hills beyond. A barbecue is offered featuring grilled marinated tri-tip, chicken and Portobello mushrooms. A variety of salads, grilled garlic bread and salsa round out the menu. Local wines are also featured and cocktails are available on the patio.
"Getting the crowd up and dancing was a big goal of these concerts," said Renee Chelew, director of conference services at the Alisal Guest Ranch.
"We really strived to book bands that have an upbeat lively sound. The result has been great. Everyone has a wonderful time and they are dancing into the night."
Taking center stage Aug. 18 is The Fossils, a local Santa Barbara County band with a large loyal fan base that will keep guests on their feet with classic rock ?n? roll. And taking over Sept. 15 will be Tony Ybarra and Sonido Moreno, playing lively Flamenco Latino.
"We're very excited about the next three concerts," added Chelew. "They each have their own unique sound and style. Every concert brings a new music experience."
Doors open and the barbecue dinner starts at 6 p.m.; the barbecue is ,15 per person. Entrance fee for the concert is ,10 per person. Tickets are available at the door or by calling 688-7784.
