Hancock College is inviting all contractors to a free workshop Friday morning to describe upcoming projects that are part of its facilities master plan.

Sponsored by the college and the Santa Maria Valley Contractors Association, the workshop will begin at 7 a.m. with check-in and will conclude at noon.

An overview of the projects - including the fully funded Student Services Center that is set to break ground early next year - will be presented from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

Details about required paperwork will be presented from

8:45 a.m. to closing.

The workshop will take place in Room G-106A/B of the Student Center, Building G, on the Santa Maria campus.

Felix Hernandez Jr., Hancock vice president of facilities and operations, said the workshop is designed to provide details on upcoming projects for company owners and estimators and to provide a "how" forum for support staff.

Topics covered in the "Navigating the Paperwork" portion will include information subcontractors need to know about labor compliance and LEED-certified buildings.

Projects planned by the college are being made possible by Measure I, the $180 million bond approved by district voters in 2006.

For more information or to reserve a seat, call the Santa Maria Valley Contractors Association at 922-2983 or e-mail robin@smv ca.org.
