Floyd and Barbara Campbell were selected to receive the Arroyo Grande Chamber of Commerce/s 2006 Ken Talley Award for their volunteerism with the Boys & Girls Clubs of South San Luis Obispo County.

The award began in 1976 as a way to honor Ken Talley, a strong supporter of civic and youth activities, and is given to someone who has made a strong contribution to youth character-building programs, according to Judith Bean, president and chief executive officer of the chamber.

&#8220We/re very flattered by this award that we/re getting,C said Barbara Campbell.

Along with the award, a ,250 scholarship will be presented to the Boys and Girls Clubs.

&#8220The Campbells have been nothing short of amazing,C said Moyses Muguira, Boys & Girls Clubs executive director. &#8220Their selfless dedication and commitment to our mission is an inspiration, and we are blessed as a community to have them as our neighbors.C

The club/s mission is to facilitate a satisfying and productive life for youngsters of all backgrounds and to address the unmet out-of-school needs of youngsters in each of the South San Luis Obispo County communities, according to its Web site, www.bgcslo.org.

The east Arroyo Grande couple regularly take Boys & Girls Clubs members on field trips. A trip to Magic Mountain and participating in the Arroyo Grande Sunset Cruz were club favorites for 2006, according to Floyd.

Floyd is also former president of the Five Cities Men/s Club and a car collector. Barbara is an avid gardener.

The Campbells have four children, all of whom live out of state.

Currently, the Campbells said, they/re working on the Boys & Girls Clubs/ annual fundraising auction and dinner set for April 28 at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo.
