Jordan Hasay honored again

One full week into 2009, Jordan Hasay has another award.

This time, the Arroyo Grande resident and Mission Prep senior is the Flotrack.org Athlete of the Year. The website runs videos of major cross country, and track and field events.

Hasay capped her 2008 with her second Foot Locker national championship. That wrapped up her first perfect prep cross country season. She is the first runner ever to win the Foot Locker national title as a freshman and then as a senior.

Her 2008 season was third among Lee Central Coast Newspapers’ Top 10 Sports Stories of the Year. Hasay set a national prep record in the girls 1,500 with a 4:14.50 in a semi-final at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. Hasay was the only high schooler who qualified for a final at the 2008 Trials.

The awards rolled in for Hasay in 2008, including USATF Junior Athlete of the Year; USA Today Girls Athlete of the Year; Track and Field Magazine prep Female Athlete of the Year; and DyeStat.com Female Athlete of the Year. Hasay’s record run at the Trials was DyeStatCal.com’s Story of the Year.

Hasay four-peated as Foot Locker West Regional girls champion. She also four-peated as a CIF State Cross Country Meet divisional champion. Hasay is the only runner, girl or boy, to win four Foot Locker regional titles. She is only the second girl to win four California prep cross country titles.

Hasay is the two-time defending USATF Junior Nationals cross country champion. At press time, Hasay was undecided as to whether or not she will try to defend her 2008 title in that race.
