Signs of the season dotted the Santa Maria Valley on Friday as people put on costumes for Halloween and observed Day of the Dead memorials.
Dolores Rincon looks at a Dia de los Muertos display honoring Juan Manuel Parra, who died in January. The display is part of a Day of the Dead celebration at the Santa Maria Town Center.
The memorials making up the 14th annual Day of the Dead exhibit, sponsored by Mexican-American Scholarship Cultural and Recreation Association, will remain through Sunday evening. The memorial is inspired by a Mexican tradition involving families building altars in honor of loves ones who have died.
