Los Alamos
Situation prompts school lockdown
Precautions were taken Tuesday at Olga Reed School in Los Alamos, including locking classroom doors, due to a situation for which details weren't clear.
Mike Luis, the teacher in charge for the district, said he made the decision to take the precautionary steps, which also included students eating lunch in their classrooms and being escorted to the restroom, following a situation that he declined to discuss.
The measures were initiated around 11 a.m. Tuesday and were expected to last throughout the day, Luis said.
Students were leaving at the end of the school day as normal, he said, and the after-school program was running.
“There was never any immediate threat,” Luis said.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department was on the lookout for someone, said department spokesman Drew Sugars, but no major crime was being committed.
Sugars declined to elaborate on why deputies were searching for the person.
He said that he thought at one point the search was in the Los Alamos area.
