Hancock drops WSC men's soccer opener

GLENDALE - Elifalet Garcia tied the score at 1-1 for the Bulldogs in the sixth minute. Then they saw the Vaqueros score the next three goals.

Glendale scored all the second-half goals too, as the Vaqueros beat Hancock 7-2. The Bulldogs fell to 0-1-0 in the Western State Conference and 3-7-0 overall.

Javier Renteria scored the Bulldogs' second goal after Andres Zepeda was fouled in the penalty box in the 43rd minute.

“They had some good shooters,” said Hancock coach Al Garcia. “They hit some nice shots.”

Hancock hosts College of the Canyons at 4 p.m. Friday in a WSC game.

Youth Sports

B&G late basketball sign-ups slated

The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Maria Valley is holding late sign-ups for its Orcutt Youth Basketball League, and Boys & Girls Club Basketball League.

The Orcutt League sign-up will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lakeview Junior High School gymnasium. Cost is $70 per player. The league is open to students in second-through-eighth grade. Space is limited, and registration will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. The league needs coaches. Those interested can contact Ernie Cuevas at 922-7763 for more information.

The Boys & Girls Club League will hold a late sign-up from 5-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Boys & Girls Club on Railroad. Cost is $60 per player. The league is open to students in first-through-sixth grades. Space is limited, and registration will be taken on a first come-first serve basis. The league needs coaches. SM Westside holds board elections

The Westside Little League will hold its annual board elections Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at Straw Hat Pizza.
