Oct. 8 is Walk to School Day at Dunlap School in Orcutt.
Adults and children will follow county-designated “safe routes” to Dunlap.
The public is invited to an Emergency Preparedness Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1219 Oak Knoll Road, in Santa Maria.
The fair is being organized by former Dunlap School student Chris Peterson as his Eagle Scout project.
On Oct. 18, El Camino Junior High School will host a Lightning Soccer Tournament from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Teams from El Camino, Fesler and Arellanes junior high schools will compete for a trophy.
There will also be a fundraising barbecue during the tournament; $6 will buy a tri-tip sandwich from Chef Louie's, and the money will go toward El Camino student clubs.
El Camino is at 219 W. El Camino.
Bruce School will host its 10th annual fall carnival to celebrate Red Ribbon Week Oct. 24.
The carnival will run from 4 to 7 p.m. in the school's quad area. The carnival, which is a fundraiser for the Parent Teacher Committee, will have a Halloween theme and feature games, food, a poster contest, face painting and other activities.
Some teachers will sell arts and crafts to make money for classroom activities.

A meeting will be held for parents of Joe Nightingale School's Title I parents from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at Nightingale's Eagle's Nest, 255 Winter Road.
Dana Elementary School will host a chicken barbecue Oct. 17 to raise funds for sixth-grade science camp. In June, Dana's sixth-graders will attend Camp Ocean Pines in Cambria.
All proceeds for the barbecue will go toward paying for the cost of the camp.
Tickets are $7 each and will be available beginning Oct. 6 from sixth-grade students or through the Dana office, 920 W Tefft St., in Nipomo.
Chuck E Cheese Night for Dana
Elementary School takes place from
3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Chuck E Cheese in Santa Maria.
The restaurant, 2254 S. Bradley Road, will donate a portion of its proceeds to the elementary school.
Family Math Night will take place in the Stallion Center at Dana Elementary School at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Parents can play mathematical games with their children, and teachers will teach math lessons to attendees in breakout sessions organized by grade level and interest.
The Blochman Parent-Teacher Organization - in conjunction with Flu Busters, a leading provider of onsite vaccinations and Novartis Vaccines - will offer convenient access to flu vaccinations through an onsite clinic at Benjamin Foxen Elementary School.
The clinic will take place in the school library from 2 to 5 p.m. today.
Vaccinations will be administered by a qualified healthcare professional and cost $30 each. Medicaid and Medicare Part B will be accepted for qualifying individuals.
Hancock College will host a Faculty Lecture Series on the topic of migration on Fridays during the months of September and October.
The lectures begin at 6:30 p.m. on the Santa Maria campus.
While the presentations are free, registration is required.
The series began Sept. 26 and will continue Oct. 10 with a presentation featuring city council member and community education instructor Hilda Zacarias, who will discuss immigration policies.
The series ends Oct. 24 with a presentation by sociology professor Alberto Restrepo addressing the context of the nation's immigration history and reveal some of the facts, data and myths surrounding it.

Hancock College will host a lecture called Giving Voice to Hope: Stories of Survival and Change.
The lecture will explore community resources to prevent suicide and violence and feature powerful, life-transforming stories from those whose lives have been affected by suicide and violence.
The event takes place at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Marian Theater on Hancock's Santa Maria campus.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and there is no charge. Light refreshments will be available.
