Hancock football coach Kris Dutra tried all morning long to find running back Thomas Sua, in order to bring him to the weekly Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Roundtable luncheon at Giavanni's Pizza.
But Sua proved to be just as elusive on Monday as he was to several L.A. Pierce defenders on Saturday night. He actually had a class.
Sua ran for 134 yards on 12 carries with four touchdowns as Hancock (2-1) defeated Pierce 35-3. He had two four-yard TD runs, a 20-yard dash, then topped it off with a 42-yarder in the second quarter.
The freshman from St. Joseph High was named the Male Athlete of the Week by NSCART.
“It was a really nice performance,” Dutra said, who also complemented his other running back Diondre Bryant who ended the game with 122 yards and a nine-yard touchdown.
“We played very well defensively for the third week in a row,” Dutra added. “And we're looking to keep that going this week.”
Hancock travels to Glendora to play Citrus (1-2) on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Athletic director Bob Lawrence talked about water polo first.
“We have gotten off to a slow start this year,” he said about the young water polo squad. “Coach Jory said he will have some players here next time.”
Lawrence then turned his attention to the undefeated girls tennis team.
“Last week we beat Righetti and Lompoc, with Lompoc being our first league match,” Lawrence said. “The three girls I brought along this time are all undefeated.”
He introduced twin sisters Jessica and Brissa (Bree-sa) Montes, who are the number one doubles team and Ashley Pennewell, unbeaten in singles.
Last week against Righetti, Pennewell won her three sets against Righetti 6-4, 6-0, 6-1 then followed up with a 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 run against Lompoc. For her success, Pennewell was named the Female Athlete of the Week.
“Last season I didn't get to play much tennis because I was in the hospital,” Pennewell said while accepting the award. “But I'm really glad I get to play varsity this season.”
Pennewell had surgery last fall that limited her availability.
Football coach Craig Knowles presented quarterback Sean Allen and lineman Alex Herd.
“On paper it looked like we did really, really well - we had over 350 yards on offense and held Dos Pueblos to under 130,” Knowles said. “But the score came out 19-17 Dos Pueblos.”
Lompoc
Athletic director Jesse Davis started off his comments with a thanks to the local businesses in Lompoc.
“I noticed a lot of athletes working and I would like to thank the merchants who allow athletes to be athletes and still earn a little money,” he said. “We don't give the merchants enough credit for working their schedules around our schedules.”
Davis introduced two players from the football team, Favi Vargas and Scott Aguilar.
Aguilar had 40 yards rushing, 40 yards receiving and 90 yards in return yardage with a touchdown in Lompoc's 24-7 win over San Marcos.
The 3-0 Braves were rewarded for their start by getting ranked at number 10 the Northern Division.

Duarte introduced teammates Tom Ross, an All-CIF goalkeeper and driver/utility player Cody Lathouwers.
Football coach Gary Wilson brought defensive tackle Chris Llanera, offensive player Harrison Reynolds and punter/kicker Jared Miller.

“They are the rock of what we have going right now,” Walker said. “Both are great athletes, both have never played water polo before and they are my two leading scorers.”
Mike Hartman talked about his football team's loss to Paso Robles. He mentioned the hoopla surrounding the dedication of the new renovations at the school's football stadium.
The Knights fell behind 21-0 at the half, but made a big comeback before falling 28-21.
“We had our opportunities but we just ran out of time,” Hartman said.

“We have a lot of kids out there, which is great,” he said.
Football coach Mike Pope talked about the six turnovers his Saints made as they fell to King City, lamenting the turnovers as the Saints were driving for scores.
“Those are mistakes a young team makes,” Pope explained. “But we know what our potential is - we just need to find that formula to close out games.”
Pope presented cornerback Michael Peralez, who had an interception and made a touchdown saving tackle.
Tennis coach Ginny Barnett called this season so far is, “one of the most memorable seasons I've had,” she said. “And it's due to those 29 girls who are passionate and have a desire to learn the sport. They've made it a joy to be out there.”
