Something fishy’s going on

Buy a Photo!

Ian Gonzaga/Staff

Youngsters got to experience the joys of fishing Sunday at Jim May Park in Santa Maria for the second annual “Take Me Fishing” event.

The basics of fishing were demonstrated, and participants also took part in a casting contest. A Global Positioning System treasure hunt and fish printing activities was also part of the fun. Lessons on lake life and boating safety were provided as well.

The free event was sponsored by the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, and was co-hosted by the Santa Maria Valley Sportsmen’s Association and Central Coast Salmon Enhancement Project. Above, parents and children fish on the banks at Jim May Park. At right, Anthony Moya, 17, right, and Gabriel Moya, 11, of Santa Maria, sit by the lake with their fishing poles during the event.
