Former county planner filling city’s interim job

The former assistant director of the San Luis Obispo County Department of Planning and Building is filling in as director of the Grover Beach Community Development Department until a permanent replacement can be found.

Pat Beck will serve as the interim community development director a minimum of four months, with the option of extending the job to six months, said City Manager Bob Perrault.

Beck assumed the interim position last week to replace George Hansen, who resigned Aug. 18 to take a similar job in Banning.

The city is conducting a search for a permanent replacement.

“Pat has had a tremendous amount of local planning experience in a career that spanned nearly 30 years with the county,” Perrault said. “We are very fortunate to have Pat aboard to help us out during this interim period.”

Beck was hired by the county in 1978 as a program manager, and in that role she was instrumental in developing the county’s Local Coastal Plan and its subsequent adoption by the California Coastal Commission.

She also served as a principal planner for Development Services and the Offshore Energy Project, division manager for Long Range Planning and assistant director of Planning and Building.
