USCB names new Athletic Director

Mark Massari has been named to replace longtime athletic director Gary Cunningham at UCSB.

Massari has been at Oregon State since 2002, most recently serving as senior associate athletic director for external affairs - directing revenue- generating, external marketing and communications activities.

“This is a special place,” Massari said. “As an athletic director, you want to be at a place where you can win and this place can win.

“We compete against the best schools in the country academically and win and we will athletically.”

Cunningham served as the Director of Athletics at UCSB since 1995. He announced that he was stepping down last January.

Cabrillo alum Danny Duffy had another outstanding outing, earning his eighth win against four defeats for the Burlington Bees.

Duffy pitched five scoreless innings, surrendering two hits as the Bees defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits 1-0. The game was preserved by Zach Peterson, who went four innings allowing one hit.

With the win, Burlington extended a five game winning streak and have taken the first three games of a four-game set in the Quad Cities.

They lead the Midwest League Western Division by three-and-a-half games over Cedar Rapids with 13 games to go.

Duffy went five innings walking one, hitting one and striking out seven. A hit batter, single, wild pitch and walk loaded the bases in the second with no outs in the second inning, but Duffy got out of the inning with two strikeouts and a fly to right.

On the season, Duffy is now 8-4 with an earned run average of 2.20. He has 102 strikeouts in 81.2 innings.
