Three people were arrested Sunday as a result of a driver checkpoint set up by the Lompoc Police Department.
More than 1,000 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was set up in the 600 block of North H Street, according to police.
“The purpose of the checkpoint was not only to detect and arrest drivers under the influence of alcohol/drugs, but also locate drivers whose licenses were suspended, as well as remind everyone of the dangers of impaired driving,” according to a Police Department statement.
Ten drivers were given field-sobriety tests, and two of them were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, police said, adding that one person was arrested for allegedly lying to a police officer.
Eight motorists were found to be driving without a license, and one was discovered to have a suspended license, police said. Seven vehicles were towed and placed under a 30-day hold and one was forfeited, police said.
Funding for the DUI checkpoint and educational material was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
