Colvin wins Ron Sharp Memorial

Parker Colvin shot a 3-under par 69 to win the Ron Sharp Memorial Golf Tournament at the Rancho Maria Golf Club.

Colvin finished one stroke better than Macgregor Hoobery to win the overall championship.

Hoobery's 70 was good for the championship in the Boys 15-17 year old division, ahead of Tyler Shean (74) and Matt Sobczak (74). Shean earned second place over Sobczak in a card-off.

Reilly McMahon's even-par 72 gave him a seven-stroke victory in the Boys 12-14 division. Adam Zakaria and Landon Brown both finished with 79s with Zakaria claiming second in a card-off.

In the Girls 18-Hole Division, Danielle Gillaspy shot an 81 for a one-stroke victory over Natalie Marriott (82) with Amber Lee (85) finishing in third place.

In the Girls 9-Hole division. Desiree Gillaspy shot a 45 to defeat Lyndze Walberg (65) and Rachel Nolan (65) for the title. Walberg grabbed second place in a card-off.

In the Boys 11-and-under Division, Brandan Pita shot a 40 to defeat Tanner Shean (42) and Jack Avrit (43) for the title.

CVJGA second at the Loren Roberts Junior Ryder Cup

The Coastal Valley Junior Golf Association (CVJGA) finished second at the recent Loren Roberts Junior Ryder Cup.

The Santa Barbara Junior Golf Association won the tournament with 112 points. CVJGA scored 103 points to easily outdistance the third place Ventura Junior Golf Association (91.5 points).

The Kern County Junior Golf Association (89 points) finished fourth with the Santa Ynez Junior Golf Association (61 points) coming in fifth and the San Luis Obispo Junior Golf Association (39.5 points) finishing in sixth place.

Members of the CVJGA team were Joseph Zakaria and Shane Sideris (boys 16-17), Cody Morse and Reilly McMahon (boys 14-15), Landon Brown and Adam Zakaria (boys 12-13) and Amber Lee and Danielle Gillaspy (girls division).

Senior softball offered in Santa Maria

The Hagerman Softball Complex is offering a senior softball league on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Open to players 55-and-up, and is a coed league.

Hagerman is located on Skyway Drive across from the Santa Maria Airport.

Free soccer coaches clinic

The Orcutt United Soccer League (OUSL), in cooperation with Cal Poly soccer, will present a free coaches clinic on Thursday, Aug. 21 at May Grisham School.

Open to all levels, the clinic will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and be led by former MLS player and current Cal Poly men's head coach Paul Holocher. Current players from the Cal Poly men's and women's soccer teams will be on hand to assist in demonstrations during the clinic.

Joe White Dinner coming up

The 8th annual Joe White Memorial Dinner and Auction will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Santa Maria Fairpark.

Presented by the Hancock College Booster Club and led by the Joe White Memorial Fund Committee, the dinner and auction raises much needed money for the Hancock athletic programs and athletic facilities.

The evening includes a no-host cocktail hour, New York strip dinner, a silent and a live auction.
