SPORTSWIRE - AHC to host Speed And Agility Clinic

Allan Hancock College will be the site for the inaugural Central Coast Youth Football Speed and Agility Clinic on Saturday at the school's football practice field.

Hosted by the Nipomo Titans Youth Football League and Orcutt Youth Football League, the clinic will provide training that will help the body maximize speed, accelerate and become agile through athletic movement.

The clinic will be run by Eliseo “Cheo” Munoz, the head athletic trainer for Allan Hancock College and John Malownoski, the assistant athletic director.

There will be three group sessions: Group A (ages 7-8) from 9 a.m. to 11a.m.; Group B (ages 9-11) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Group C (ages 11-13) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost is $40 per session and is due on the day of event. Each participant must wear shorts and cleats.

Indians 2008 youth clinic on tap

The Santa Maria Indians begin their youth clinics today and will go through Friday. Clinics wil run from 10 a.m until 1 p.m.

The youth clinics will be led by the Santa Maria Indians head coaching staff and former professional baseball player Bobby Brown, who has over 10 years of professional baseball experience and Ryan Ruiz, assistant coach at Central Arizona College who won their region and qualified for the Junior College World Series this past season.

Coaches Marc Smith, formerly of the Paso Reds and current a Cal Poly infielder and Indians coach Scott Domingues will also be conducting the clinics. Along with the coaches, several of the Santa Maria Indians players will be on hand.

The cost of the four day camp is $50 and is open to kids in grades K-8. Campers will receive instruction, a T-shirt, snacks and beverages. They will also be admitted free to all home games that week as well as being honored on the field with the Indians before the July 18 game. Kids can also enjoy a private autograph ceremony following the Friday, July 18 game.

Packers hosting fantasy camp

Grownups will be able to live out their baseball fantasies when the Santa Maria Valley Packers semi-pro baseball team holds a fantasy camp on John Osborne Field at Hancock College in Santa Maria this summer.

The camp will be held on Friday, July 18, starting at 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 19 at 11 a.m. The camp is open to men and women 35 years and older.

Campers will enjoy fielding ground balls and taking part in batting practice before the 1 p.m. game on Saturday.

On Friday, campers will have workouts and then enjoy a BBQ with the Packers' players and coaches. Day two will consist of pre-game batting practice and the Packers Fantasy Baseball Game, which begins at 1 p.m.

The cost is $200 and includes a baseball uniform, Packers jersey - with the fans' name on the back - a Packers cap, the BBQ and a lifetime of memories. Campers will keep the jersey and cap.
