DENVER - St. Joseph High graduate Doug Bernier was called up by the Colorado Rockies on Monday, according to former athletic director Dave Brunell.
Bernier, a 1998 graduate of SJHS, has been the everyday shortstop at the Class AAA Colorado Springs Sky Sox, before the move up to the big leagues. He had a .225 average with five HRs and 18 RBIs on the season.
The infielder was part of the Knights' 1997 CIF Division V championship squad, a team that finished the year 27-0.
The move comes as the defending National League champs deal with injuries to regular infielders Troy Tulowitzki and Clint Barmes.
Bernier's first game with the club is expected to come tonight when the Rockies begin a three-game interleague series at home against the Cleveland Indians.
