SPORTSWIRE - Barajas qualifies for SoCal Regionals

DESERT HOT SPRINGS - Righetti High senior Bobby Barajas was one of three Central Coast golfers to make the cut at the CIF Southern Section Indiviual Finals on Monday, advancing to next week's Southern California Regionals.

Barajas shot a three-over 74 at the par-71 Mission Lakes Country Club, outside of Palm Springs to make the field.

Joining him from the area are two other PAC-7 League qualifiers, Paso Robles' Jon Eric Cook (73) and Atascadero's Austin Kaiser (74).

Two other Central Coast players, Atascadero's Jason Peters (77) and Morro Bay's Eric Olson (80), both missed the cut.

The tournament leaders - Andrew Perez of Santa Barbara and Johnny McArthur of Newhall's Hart, each carded rounds of three-under 68.

The top 28 from Monday, including the local trio, advance to the CIF Southern California Regionals, set to tee off on May 29th at the Murietta Golf Club in Temecula.

Physicals for all PVHS sports on tap

Pioneer Valley High's athletic department will be conducting sports physicals for the 2008-09 season on May 28th at the quad area of PVHS.

Cost is $20 per athlete, and are mandatory for all athletes competing during next season's sporting events.

All players must have their full physical packets completed at the time of their physical. Packets for incoming freshman can be picked up at their junior high school's main office.

Coaches sought at PVHS, Righetti

Pioneer Valley High School is looking for boys varsity and junior varsity water polo head coaches. Previous experience in coaching water polo is required.

Righetti High School is looking for girls varsity and J.V. tennis coaches and a head coach for the girls varsity basketball team.

All coaches are needed for the fall season starting August 25 with the exception of Righetti's girls' basketball coach who will run the summer program.

All Star Cheer and Dance sign-ups

The Santa Maria Valley All Stars is holding open registration for its Cheer and Dance teams Tuesday, May 20, from 6-8 p.m. at the YMCA at 3400 Skyway Dr.

The team is open to children ages 5-18.

The registration fee is $15.

Larry Lee Camps on tap this summer

Cal Poly baseball coach Larry Lee and his staff will host a trio of camps in San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria during June and July, for baseball players ages 7-13.

Cost for each four-day camp is $200, and includes all instruction and a camp t-shirt.
