Solis qualifies for NCAA Division II track championships
Former Hancock College student Jesus Solis, a junior at Homboldt State ran recently in the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships.
Solis finished 16th in 9:16.08.
SMVYSA continues registration for the 2008 Fall Season
The Santa Maria Valley Youth Soccer Association (SMVYSA) is holding registration for the Fall 2008 season. Players of all levels, ages 4 to 19 years old. are welcome to sign-up. The season runs from September 6 through November 15.
Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday starting April 26 through July 12 at the snack bar at Adam School Soccer Field, across the street from the Minami Center on W. Enos.
New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate for proof of age.
Late fees will apply after June 28.
Parents are asked to notify a board member at the snack bar if you are interested in volunteering to be a coach, board member or referee (Referees are paid for every game they officiate). Come in to the snack bar for more details.

Hershey's Track & Field Games at PVHS Saturday
The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department will host the annual Hershey's Track and Field Games on Saturday, May 17.
This free event will be held at Pioneer Valley High School, 675 Panther Drive and is open to boys and girls ages 9-14.
Youngsters can compete in several running and field events with top performers advancing to the Hershey's Northern California State Games.
Registration takes place at the Recreation and Parks Department Administrative Office until May 14. For more information, call 925-0951, Ext. 260.
Good Samaritan Services Celebrity Softball Game
On Sunday, May 18 at 1 p.m., a team led by Santa Maria mayor Larry Lavagnino will take on a team led by Lompoc mayor Dick DeWees in a benefit softball game for the Good Samaritan Services Recovery Art Program.
The game will be played at the Hagerman Sports Complex Field Number one and will feature local celebrities ranging from television news anchors, political figures, city employees and business leaders.
Some of the players for Team Lavagnino will include judge Rogelio Flores, city manager Tim Ness, KSBY sports anchor Andrew Masuda, KCOY weather expert Jim Byrne, senator Abel Maldonado and retired police officer and Hancock College police chief Ken George.
Some of the dignitaries on Team DeWees include supervisor Joni Gray, Lompoc police officer and former professional baseball player Scott Morgan, KSBY weatherman Rob Carlmark and KCOY sports anchor Dave Alley.
Ben Heighes from radio stations KINF/KUHL, KSBY's Corina Corral, assemblyman Sam Blakeslee and Santa Maria city council member Hilda Zacarias will also play on a team to be determined.
Santa Maria police chief Dan Macagni will be the head umpire in the game.
The second year game will once again benefit the Recovery Arts Program which uses the medium of art to help clients during the recovery process. The act of creating art helps clients rediscover lost emotional ranges and provide a meditative device that helps in handling stress.
Tickets for the game are $10 and includes a tri-tip sandwich, chips and a soft drink. Tickets are available by calling Good Samaritan at 346-8185 or the United Way at 922-0329.
