Baseball, softball teams to hit the road

Most of the Central Coast qualifiers for the CIF Southern Section baseball and softball brackets were saddled Monday with first-round road games.

Of the 16 teams from the Los Padres and PAC-7 Leagues that were awarded playoff berths in the sports, only four will be on home soil for Friday's first-round games: Paso Robles baseball and softball (both Division II), along with Lompoc and Templeton softball (Div. IV).

In the Santa Maria Valley, St. Joseph's baseball team will open Division IV action at La Habra, while the softball team also hits the road for a game at Rowland of Rowland Heights, all at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.

Both of Lompoc's entries will be in Division IV action on Friday, with the baseball team at home against Culver City, while the softball team heads to Santa Barbara to face Dos Pueblos.

A few schools have picked up home dates in early-week wild-card action: Santa Ynez baseball will host Oaks Christian in a Division IV wild-card game today at 3:15 p.m., while Arroyo Grande hosts Herbert Hoover of Glendale in Division II action.

Cabrillo will be on the road at Beverly Hills in a Division IV wild-card game today at 3:15 p.m.

Arroyo Grande's softball team also opens wild-card play on the road, traveling to face Redondo at 3:15 on Wednesday.
