SM Valley Packers fantasy camp

Grownups will be able to live out their baseball fantasies when the Santa Maria Valley Packers semi-pro baseball team holds a fantasy camp on John Osborne Field at Hancock College this summer.

The camp will be held on Friday, July 18, starting at 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 19 at 11 a.m. The camp is open to men and women 35 years and older.

Campers will enjoy fielding ground balls and taking part in batting practice before the 1 p.m. game on Saturday.

On Friday, campers will have workouts and then enjoy a BBQ with the Packers' players and coaches. Day two will consist of pre-game batting practice and the Packers Fantasy Baseball Game, which begins at 1 p.m.

The cost is $200 and includes a baseball uniform, Packers jersey - with the fans' name on the back - a Packers cap, the BBQ and a lifetime of memories. Campers will keep the jersey and cap.

Good Samaritan Services Celebrity Softball Game

Tickets are now on sale for Good Samaritan Services second Celebrity Softball Game scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 18 at the Hagerman Sports Complex in Santa Maria.

Santa Maria Mayor Larry Lavagnino and his team of local luminaries will defend their title against Lompoc Mayor Dick DeWees and his celebrity team.

Proceeds benefit Good Samaritan Services Recovery Art Program.

Tickets are $10 each and include a tri-tip sandwich, chips and soda.

Pitch, Hit, & Run Competition

The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department will host the annual Pitch, Hit and Run Baseball Skills Competition on Thursday, May 8 from 6-8 p.m.

This free event will be held at the Hagerman Sports Complex, 3300 Skyway Drive in Santa Maria.

Boys and girls ages 7-14 are invited to compete. Participants will demonstrate their pitching, hitting and base running abilities against their peers. Top performers advance to the Sectional Competition.

Registration takes place on site, the day of the event.

Hershey's Track & Field Games

The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department will host the annual Hershey's Track and Field Games on Saturday, May 17.

This free event will be held at Pioneer Valley High School, 675 Panther Drive and is open to boys and girls ages 9-14.

Youngsters can compete in several running and field events with top performers advancing to the Hershey's Northern California State Games.

Registration takes place at the Recreation and Parks Department Administrative Office until May 14.

Kiwanis all-star Basketball game coming to Nipomo

Another all-star basketball game hits the Central Coast when the Kiwanis 18th Annual Central Coast All-Star Basketball Spectacular 2008 hits Nipomo High School.

The event takes place on Tuesday, May 13. The Northern Santa Barbara County all stars take on the San Luis Obispo County Senior High School all stars.

The girls' game starts at 5:30 p.m. and the boys' at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a slam dunk contest and 3-point shooting contest. Prices are $5 for adults, and $2 for children and students.

The event is sponsored by the Kiwanis Clubs of Nipomo and the Santa Maria Valley.
