Showing off their baseball fundamentals, boys and girls ages 7 to 14 converged at Hagerman Sports Complex for the Pitch, Hit & Run Baseball Skills Competition Thursday evening.

Hosted by the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, the free annual event features participants showing off their pitching, hitting and base-running skills, organizers said.

Top performers move on to Saturday's Sectional Competition, hosted by the San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department and featuring competitors from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.

Winners from that competition move on to compete in Los Angeles, and eventually the best in the nation will meet in this summer in New York to compete at Yankee Stadium during the 2008 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
