Goleta motorcyclist injured in Hwy. 101 crash, Lompoc woman escapes injury

A Goleta man suffered a broken leg and cuts and abrasions late Thursday afternoon when, apparently failing to realize that the traffic ahead was stopped, crashed his motorcycle into the back of a car on northbound Highway 101 north of Highway 217, reported the California Highway Patrol.

Curtis Oshock, 53, was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by ambulance where he was admitted.

The driver of the 1999 Nissan Sentra that Oshock’s 1989 Honda motorcycle crashed into just before 5:30 p.m., 49-year-old Maria Alvarez of Lompoc, was not injured.

The CHP reported that witnesses said Oshock switched lanes, apparently not noticing that the traffic ahead was at a standstill.

He was unable to move out of the way before he rear-ended the Sentra, the force of which ejected Oshock onto the roadway. The motorycle careened out of control and struck the concrete center divider where it stopped.

Oshock was wearing a helmet. The crash remained under investigation, and alcohol was not involved, according to the CHP.
