Dayanara Velasquez, right, of the Aztec dance group “Xinhcoatl” dances Sunday during the Earth Day Street Fair, hosted by the

Santa Maria Natural History Museum from noon to 3 p.m. at 412 S. McClelland St. Above left, Michael Nguyen, 9, holds a snake at the Los Padres National Forest booth during the celebration. The theme this year was “Trees of Life,” and the keynote speaker was Bob Muller from the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden. The event included a concert by the First United Methodist Church, dance

performances by the American Dance Troupe and Aztec Dancers. It also offered other activities such as a fossil dig and crafts for kids; test drives of a hybrid vehicle; and an Earth Day flea market. Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, and 5th District Supervisor Joe

Centeno of Santa Maria were slated to hand out conservation awards to local businesses and nonprofit groups. The event was

sponsored by Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department; Marian Medical Center; Pacific Gas & Electric; Rabobank; and

Toyota-Scion of Santa Maria.
