SACRAMENTO - Rachael Bilney had 23 points, five steals and three assists to lead Branson of Ross past Mission Prep, 51-39, in the Division V girls' state championship at Arco Arena Saturday.
Samantha Bilney, Rachael's twin, had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Bulls (28-7), who won their second straight title. Michela Bestwick, a senior like the Bilney twins, added 10.
Leigh Yetter led Mission Prep (27-5) with 18 points, but the Royals never led.
They got within five points at 22-17, but Branson went on a 17-3 run and the game never got closer than double-digits thereafter.
Neither team shot well from the field, but the Bulls converted 23 of 30 free throws and forced 24 Mission Prep turnovers.
Branson also continued the domination of Northern California in Division V girls. The north has now won 17 of the 21 Division V title games.
Baseball
Cabrillo 15-2, San Marcos 5-7
The Conquistadores (3-5) finished their pre-season by splitting a doubleheader at San Marcos. Cabrillo won the first game 15-5. The Royals took the second game 7-2.
Kevin Harmon drove in four runs for the Conqs in the opener. Aaron Naputi went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Cabrillo starting pitcher Brian Engler allowed two runs, both earned, and seven hits in his six innings of work.
Cabrillo had only five hits in the second game. Its starter, Deuce Galvan, pitched four innings. He allowed two runs (only one earned) and four hits.
San Marcos is 5-4. The Conquistadores start their Los Padres League season at home at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Santa Ynez.
Softball
Cabrillo 7-16, Nipomo 1-3
The Conquistadores (6-2) swept a doubleheader, 7-1 and 16-3, from the Titans (5-5). Both teams wrapped up non-league play Saturday at Nipomo.
Cabrillo got rolling right away, with three runs in the first inning of the opener.
Cabrillo racked up 16 hits in game one. Miranda Fernandes (two doubles) and Alex Pino both had four hits. Kelcie Jo Pecyna doubled, and drove in two runs. Pino and Kylie Shae Aldridge both had two RBIs.
Alyssa Abayari pitched a four-hit complete game for Cabrillo. The Conquistadores had 17 hits the second game.
Pitcher Adrianna Segura had four herself. Holloway had three. Pino had four RBIs. Holloway had three.
Cabrillo takes on Santa Ynez at 4 p.m. Tuesday at home in its LPL opener.
Track and Field
Atascadero Memorial Invite.
Lompoc senior Masson Blow won the triple jump with a 43-8 at Atascadero High School.
Lompoc's Jozza Ray placed three times. She finished second in the high jump (5-2), and third in the long jump (17-0) and triple jump (34-10).
Ray ran the third leg for the Braves' 400 meter relay team which finished third in 53.34. Onima Agbodike led off Lompoc. Darien Dull-Ray ran second. Ray ran third, and Courtney Stumpo anchored.
Lompoc's Chelsea Cassulo finished second in the shot put at 41-2 and third in the discus at 109-4.
Megan Vyenielo led the Righetti contingent at Atascadero. She won the 100 in 13.5 and led off for the Warriors' 800 relay team that finished third. The rest of the foursome consisted of Megan Allen, Lorraine Martin and Sensika Niyathapala.
Righetti's C.J. De Commasmond ran second in the boys 110 high hurdles. His time was unavailable. He finished third in 43.2 in the 300 hurdles.
Camarillo Classic
CAMARILLO - Arroyo Grande freshman Jana Hayashi added to her victory total in an impressive first year of high school running. This time, she won the 3,200 meters in 11:41.5.
Junior teammate Karlee Owens turned in a solid middle distance double. Owens was runner-up in the girls 1,600 (5:13.8) and 800 (2:23.7).
Arroyo Grande's Brooke Shepard also finished second, in the girls discus (115-2). She placed third in the shot put at 36-8. Teammate Rachel Ray was third in the pole vault at 9-0.
On the boys side, Arroyo Grande's Kenny Sugishita was second in the discus at 169-0. The Eagles' Austin Field finished third in the shot put at 50-2.
Golf (Thursday)
PAC-7 League Tournament
Tyler Clark led Nipomo to victory at this league tournament at Hunter Ranch in Paso Robles.
Clark shot a 76. Teammates following were Jeff McNeil (78), Colt Hoffman (81), Rory Doll (83) and Bryan Walker (84).
Nipomo shot a 402. Medalist Jon Eric Cook shot a 72 and led host Paso Robles to second place. The Bearcats shot a 409.
San Luis Obispo finished third at 413. Atascadero was one stroke behind, Arroyo Grande finished fifth at 423, Righetti was sixth at 440 and Pioneer Valley did not score.
Bobby Barajas led Righetti with a 76. Matt McAustin was Arroyo Grande's leader with a 78.
