Toddler pinned between car, boat trailer

A 2-year-old boy is being treated tonight at Marian Medical Center after he was trapped between his father’s car and a boat propeller about 4 p.m.

While doctors are awaiting X-ray results to determine the full extent of the child’s injuries, it is apparent that he has a significant abrasion across his chest, and a laceration in the groin area, said Officer Bryan Golston of the Santa Maria Police Department.

Just after 4 p.m., officers were summoned to the 2000 block of North Lazo Way, north of Taylor Street and west of Railroad Avenue.

The boy’s father was working on his white Honda Accord — which was turned off, but with the transmission in drive — on the street. A trailer with a boat was parked in front of the Honda.

When the father turned on the Honda’s ignition from under its hood, the vehicle lurched forward and trapped the boy between the vehicle and the boat propeller, Golston said.

The incident remains under investigation, he added.
