Another successful Nipomo October Festival and Home and Garden Fair, our 24th, is under our belts.
I congratulate all our contest winners. Our heaviest pumpkin, 404 pounds, was brought by 11-year-old Matthew Ortiz. He also won for prettiest pumpkin. Michael Ortiz won for ugliest pumpkin.
John Miranda took the honors of the heaviest zucchini at 11 pounds, 8 ounces, and the longest, at 25-1/2 inches.
The salsa contest winner was Jane Thomas. Gina Hoiland took home the gold for best pickles.
In the 5-8 age group, Melissa Carnefix won for best-carved pumpkin, and Brandon Kush for best-designed pumpkin. The 9-12 age group winners for carved pumpkin was Bretnna Reagle, and Sonia Carreno for designed pumpkin.
Andrew Diaz de Padilla took the grand prize for best overall carved or designed pumpkin.
This is all possible because of the following Nipomo businesses, which donated the prizes: Antonio's Ristorante, Art of Flowers, Brianna-Nicole Day Spa and Salon, Domino's Pizza, Little Jocko's Restaurant, Nipomo Flowers and Gifts, Nipomo Old Towne Video, Oasis Salon and Day Spa, Pacific Breeze Café, Pi-Whole Pizzeria, Rabobank, Subway Sandwiches and Video Choice.
