Students at Fairlawn Elementary School in Santa Maria have an extra reason to be excited to return to school this fall. Their dream of having tetherball is a reality.
At the beginning of the last school year, students in the Fairlawn K-Kids leadership club decided they would take on this project. They began with a schoolwide letter-writing campaign to find business partners. They planned a barbecue fund-raiser and a Read-a-Thon to raise the money.
After a year of hard work and a lot of help from our business partners, three brand-new tetherball courts were installed over the summer.
The Fairlawn K-Kids, along with all the students at Fairlawn School, would like to thank the following individuals and businesses for their generous support and help to accomplish this dream - JF Will Co., Lahr Industrial Welding, Union Asphalt, Mariscal-Rumbaugh Insurance, Marty Mariscal, Nancy Stewart, Vocational Training Center, San Luis Sourdough, Santa Maria Recreation & Parks Department, Santa Maria Noontime Rotary, Saturn of Santa Maria, SMBSD M&O, Fairlawn school staff, and our sponsoring organization, the Santa Maria Noontime Kiwanis.
