CSA Boys advance to San Diego finals
The Cherif Soccer Academy boys under-17 team advanced to the championship game of the Albion College Cup, held the weekend of July 14 at UC San Diego.
Playing in the Showcase Division in front of several college coaches, CSA rolled into the finals by winning four straight games.
In a high scoring semifinal match, CSA beat the Madera Scorpions 5-3.
Servando Perez, Taylor Frias, Elvis Zaragoza and Steve Posa all scored goals in that game.
After beating the host team, SC Albion White, 3-1 in pool-play, CSA faced the same team in the championship game. This time Albion prevailed, breaking a 1-1 tie in the final minute to win the tournament.
“The Albion Cup this year is a Premier rated tournament,” said team manager Bob Frias. “Based on our performance, we expect GotSoccer.com to move us up in the rankings, probably into the top 15 in Cal-South.”
Other team members are Andy Contreras, Alex Maldonado, Rodrigo Hernandez, Miguel Hernandez, Ehi Robinson, Brian McFadden, Ivan Chavez, Horacio Vieyra and Osmar Sanchez.
