Two boys from Lompoc, ages 15 and 17, were arrested and booked into Santa Maria Juvenile Hall Wednesday after they were caught with $1,500 worth of women's jewelry.
According to Sgt. Martin Eberling, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies were tipped off to the burglary at 2:15 p.m. when a concerned neighbor in the 500 block of Mars Avenue in Vandenberg Village reported seeing the two boys in the backyard of a neighbor's home.
When deputies approached the home one of them saw a boy coming out of the side gate but when the deputy tried to apprehend him he fled back into the house.
The boys then fled out the door and over a side fence. Deputies were able to confirm that a burglary had occurred, and a helicopter helped the Police track down the boys approximately one mile away at Spica and Rigel avenues.
The victim was able to positively identify the jewelry that the boys had in their possession as her own.
They were booked on first degree burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and resisting arrest.
