Crockett wins Late Model main event
Arroyo Grande's Devin Crockett finished first in the Late Model Stocks 25-lap main event on Saturday, leading a full night of results at the Santa Maria Speedway. Devin Crockett's newphew, Justin, also had a strong night, taking second in the mini-stocks.
Rounding out the Late Model results was Billy Griffin's second place finish from Buena Park, followed by Chet Buckley (third) from Lompoc, Brian Wirtz (fourth) from Santa Barbara and Robert Sanders (fifth) from Bakersfield. Devin Crockett and Dana Beattie won the 8-lap heats.
In the IMCA Modifieds, Chad Webber of Arroyo Grande won his first main event in the modifieds division. Kenny KirkPatrick of Nipomo finished second, followed in order by Danny Lauer of Santa Maria, Jacob Jones of Santa Maria and Tim Bresheas of Santa Maria. KirkPatrick and Jones won the 8-lap heats. The main event was 25 laps.
It was Tom Renner of Nipomo that won the features event in the Factory Stocks division. He beat out Kirk Morgan of Santa Maria (second), Kevin Linson of Arroyo Grande (third), Chuck Barfoot of Pismo Beach (fourth) and Matt Marchiando of Goleta (fifth). Doyle Graham Jr., Dave Thompson and Tim Correia won the three, 8-lap heats.
In the Mini-stocks, Ken Kehs of Arroyo Grande took the features win, followed by Justin Crockett's performance. Frank Nyback of Santa Maria took third, followed by Rob Gilbertson of Santa Maria and Aaron Cervantez of Atascadero. Nyback and Justin Crockett won the 8-lap heat races.
Ultimate Soccer Club tryouts
The Ultimate Soccer Club (USC) holds its first tryouts for the 2007-08 season on Monday, May 21, from 5-7 p.m. at St. Joseph High School.
USC follows that up with tryouts - all at St. Joseph - on Wednesday, May 23 from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, May 26 from 9-11 a.m., Wednesday, May 30 and Friday, June1 from 5 to 7 p.m.
USC competed in the girls under-12 division last season and will move up to the girls under-13 as off August 1. All potential players must be born between 08/01/94 and 07/31/95. No players will be allowed to play up in age.
As a first year member of the Santa Maria Independent Soccer Organization (SMISO), the USC girls won their division in the Central Coast Soccer League and made it to the round of 32 in the State Cup. They competed in 7 tournaments over the course of the year, bringing home Championship or Finalist trophies in all but one.
