Shell Beach

One dead after bar fight, one being held

A 30-year-old Shell Beach man who was severely injured in a fist fight last week outside of Alex's Bar-B-Q died from blunt trauma to the head, according to autopsy results.

Pismo Beach Police officers found Gregory Mascorro on Boeker Street unconscious and bleeding from the head shortly after 11 p.m. May 8.

Mascorro was transported to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital with major head wounds and later transferred to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he was admitted to the intensive-care unit.

He was pronounced brain dead at 11:08 a.m. May 9, according to Ron Yukelson, Sierra Vista spokesperson.

Mascorro's alleged attacker, Jermey Lee Hollis of Paso Robles, has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and is being held at San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail.

Santa Maria

Main and Blosser intersection closed

Portions of the intersection at Main Street and Blosser Road are expected to be closed today through Friday so that crews can connect a water line.

Motorists in the area are advised to drive with care or use alternate routes.

Crews are slated to expose the underground pipes to connect a water line and then backfill the hole, according to city staff. Once this week's work is done, paving and restripping are expected next week.

This is the last step in a project to widen Blosser Road, officials said.




Grover Beach

Drunk bicyclist injured after crash

A suspected drunken bicyclist remained hospitalized Tuesday after he collided with a vehicle the previous night.

Justin Goss, 31, of Grover Beach was listed in stable condition at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, said spokeswoman Anna Scott.

Goss had minor to moderate injuries when he was found lying on the roadway at 8th Street and Grand Avenue, where he collided with a passing vehicle driven by Joshua Bledsoe, 20, of San Luis Obispo around 10:15 p.m. Monday, the Grover Beach Police Department reported.

Police learned Goss was riding a bicycle west on the north sidewalk of Grand approaching 8th where he pulled into the roadway and struck the side of Bledsoe's 2000 Jeep Wrangler, according to a press release.




Santa Barbara

State A.G. Brown will be in town tomorrow

State Attorney General Edward Brown Jr. will be in town to discuss public safety issues, crime trends and statewide programs and to recognize local officers Thursday morning.

The geographic “zone meeting,” one of eight held throughout the state, will be hosted by Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown at the Fess Parker's Double Tree Resort, 633 E. Cabrillo Blvd., starting at 9 a.m.

Topics of discussion include restorative policing, rural crime, Livescan and DNA Integration, according to a press release. Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Senior Deputy Sandra Brown will be among officers to receive an award Thursday.




Grover Beach

Suspects sought in skateboard assault

Police are looking for a suspect, or suspects, who may have struck a 19-year-old in the head with a skateboard during a fight Monday night.

Travis Mathew Miner of Grover Beach was found unconscious in the middle of the street in the 200 block of North 14th Street shortly after 8 p.m., when a fight involving five to seven individuals was reported, according to the Grover Beach Police Department.

Miner is believed to have been involved in the fight and was struck in the head with a skateboard, police said. Miner was treated at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital and released, said hospital spokeswoman Anna Scott.

Witnesses said a person known as “Willie” was seen holding the skateboard that night, police said. It is unknown if “Willie” actually struck Miner in the head.
