Rodeo Queen fundraising in full swing

In the race to become queen of the 2007 Elks Rodeo, candidates and their committees hold various events to raise money for area youth recreation. The young woman who raises the most money will be crowned queen.

This year's candidates are Lindsey Brown, representing the Rise & Achieve Scholarship Foundation; Samantha Garley, Santa Ynez Valley Elks Youth Recreation; Evangelina Marquez, Guadalupe Kiwanis; and Brittney Wood, Boys & Girls Club of Santa Maria Valley.

Here's a list of events that have been submitted to us so far, which we'll publish every Thursday until the queen is crowned on June 1. This year's rodeo runs from May 31 to June 3.

Saturdays through May 26 - Barbecue. Beginning at 11 a.m. at the Guadalupe Downtown Parking Lot. Your choice of chicken, ribs or a combination plate of chicken, rib and tri-tip, $9. Includes queen ticket.
