Domestic violence suspect dies in crash
A 22-year-old Arroyo Grande man was killed Tuesday morning in Santa Margarita after he crashed his car into a concrete barrier and flipped several times.
The case was related to a domestic violence call that was received by the Arroyo Grande Police Department, officers said. The suspect left the scene in the alleged domestic violence victim's car, a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse, police said.
The crashed car was later found on Highway 58 by the California Highway Patrol.
The man was driving east on Highway 58 around 10:45 a.m. at high speed when he lost control of the car, crossed several lanes of traffic and crashed, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver suffered major injuries and was taken to French Hospital, but died shortly after.
The man's name was not released Tuesday pending notification of his family.

Heavy rain brings flash-flood warnings
Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the South Coast Tuesday afternoon with as much as half an inch of rain in half an hour, prompting flash-flood warnings for San Marcos Pass.
At San Marcos Pass, about three-quarters of an inch of rain fell in 30 minutes, according to the Santa Barbara Office of Emergency Services.
The storm, which began around 3 p.m., was likely to cause flash flooding in and below steep terrain in the Santa Ynez foothills and the hills above Santa Barbara into the evening.
As of 7:30 p.m., the Santa Barbara County Fire Department had not responded to any flood-related emergencies, said spokesman Joe Guzzardi.

Man arrested for alleged break-in
A Grover Beach man was arrested after allegedly breaking into an occupied apartment just after midnight Tuesday, police said.
Travis James Andrews, 25, allegedly kicked open a locked front door of an apartment in the 1400 block of Nipomo Street around 12:14 a.m., San Luis Obispo police said.
Andrews reportedly confronted the couple inside and demanded money, police added. The woman managed to escape out the front door and ran to a neighbor, who then called police.
The couple was not hurt and Andrews was arrested without incident.
Police also received a separate report from a resident who claimed someone had tried to kick open the front door of his home in the 500 block of Buchon Street.
Police believe a shoe print left at the scene matches a shoe Andrews wore during his arrest.
Andrews was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of robbery, burglary and attempted burglary. Bail was set at $85,000.

Cause of power outage still unknown
The cause of a power outage remained unknown after several thousand households lost their electricity Tuesday morning.
About 2,200 PG&E customers along West Thompson Avenue, between Tefft Street and Highway 101, reportedly lost power between 8:42 and 9:22 a.m., said spokeswoman Sharon Gavin.
Officials at Nipomo High School, which is on Thompson, said the school did not experience the power failure.

Officials respond to two Greka leaks
Santa Barbara County Fire officials responded to two separate Greka Energy facilities after six barrels of crude oil and eight barrels of processed water were released Tuesday.
The first leak occurred at 1:20 p.m. at 6730 Palmer Road at the site known as 161 header, said fire department spokesman Capt.. Keith Cullom.
Three barrels of crude oil leaked into a containment area there, Cullom said. There was no impact to the surrounding environment.
A second leak was reported about 4:20 p.m. at 5080 Black Road, at the facility called the Casmalia Lease, Cullom said.
Three barrels of crude oil and eight barrels of processed water were released into a diked containment area, he said. No waterways were effected.
No one was hurt in either case.
