SANTA BARBARA - It wasn't pretty. But it was a win.
In a unlikely to make any highlight reels, Lompoc beat San Marcos High 21-0 on windy Friday night at Valley Stadium.
With three lost fumbles, one interception and over a hundred yards in penalties, largely on holding calls, the Braves (2-1) were luck to come out with a win. That didn't count holding penalties San Marcos (0-2) refused or offsetting unsportsman like conduct penalties.
But there were bright spots. Senior quarterback Tim Ochoa had a hand in all three scores, scoring 13 and 1 yard runs and finding Justin McComber in the back of the endzone for a 2 point conversion following the Braves third score.
Sophomore Bobby Collins led all rushers with 78 yards on 6 carries, including a 38 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter as he dodges numerous tacklers.
The final score was set up by an interception by Chris Mallory deep in Lompoc territory as the Royals mounted loan serious scoring threat of the night. Starting on their own five yard line, the Braves drove 95 yards, aided by a face mask call on San Marcos and a 18 yard Ochoa to Lucas Carpio pass.
San Marcos was largely ineffective all night in the face of the swarming Lompoc defense. The Royals top rusher, Alex Segal, had 22 carries for 52 yards often being taken down by the middle of the Lompoc line.
Ochoa's first score followed a San Marcos fumble. On his second score, he did it all, bring Lompoc almost single handling from mid-field on a 20 yard run and a 10 yard pass Daryl Aguilar, who darted to the San Marcos two. Ochoa went in on a short quarterback keeper.
San Marcos also had 60 yards in penalties and lost two balls on turnovers. It was that kind of night.
