Titans make history by beating Warriors

Billy Chambers scored two touchdowns to lead Nipomo to a 29-14 non-league victory over Carpinteria Friday.

With the win the Titans improve to 2-1 overall which is the best the Titans have done in the school's short history and is a good sign as they prepare for the Los Padres League opener against Cabrillo on Sept. 28 after a bye next week.

“If we win the next one we'll be ready to get some attention,” said coach Jon Hitchen. “We've been under the radar for four years now.”

At Nipomo High School the Titans' Filip Colin recovered a fumble by the Warriors on the first play of their drive after the kick off.

The Titans then used four plays to move the ball 20 yards and Chambers scored on a four-yard touchdown run.

“We got the momentum early and kept it going,” Chambers said. “It was a solid night all the way around. Everybody was doing their job all around to help out the team.”

The Warriors (0-2) fumbled twice in the game and gave up two interceptions one of which Brent Seguine caught in the endzone with 11 seconds left in the third quarter to stop a big drive.

“Our defense did a great job the whole game,” said Seguine. “They stuck it to them.”

Seguine's 25 yard field goal would put the Titans up 9-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Titans quarterback Mason Sperakos completed eight of 19 passes for 107 yards on the night. One of those was a 14 yard pass touchdown pass to Sebastian Dechert to give the Titans a 16-7 lead at halftime.

Carpinteria got on the board when Eric Stein connected to Jon-Paul Jimenez for a 25-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Stein completed six of 16 passes for 74 yards on the night.

In the second half, Chambers capped a six play drive from Nipomo's own 43 yard line with a 10 yard run scamper up the middle.

After the touchdown the Warriors went three and out. And on the Titans first play of their drive Steve Otto made a beautiful 59 yard run up the left sidelines to lift the Titans to a 29-7 lead.

Stein scored the Warriors' final touchdown of the game on a three yard run with 14 seconds on the clock.

Oxnard 14, SLO 13

OXNARD - The Yellowjackets made two extra points. The Tigers made one. Thus, Oxnard's players went home happy and San Luis Obispo dropped to 1-1.

All of the scoring in this non-leaguer was in the first half. Oxnard's winning extra point kick came with 6:31 left in the first half.

The Yellowjackets prevailed despite the Tigers outgaining them 239-159 in total offense. Conner Reese threw two touchdown passes for San Luis Obispo.
